Jericó, Antioquia: Suprises within surpirses

We had arrived in town the morning before. Nursing hang-overs, we were slow moving but wanting to make the most of a beautiful afternoon. We were in tourist mode — snapping pictures, visiting the town’s various churches & museums, enjoying a tinto here, a rum there.

Town square is lined with lovely old paisa buildings with their brightly painted woodwork and balconies. There are two, however, that stand out as exceptional and exceptionally intriquing. Their windows were wide open allowing glimpses at their interiors. As we were photographing one of them (Juan on his iPhone, me on my poor old neglected Pentax K1000) a woman came over and invited us in.

What we found was out of another world and time. In bad need of repairs, but frozen in time and completely enchanting.
